Preparing kids for tests doesn't have to mean drills.In our work, we make explicit connections between good test-taking practices and good general-learning practices. Below, please find some strategies and ideas that were compiled during common planning.
I. Vocabulary--> Grammar phrases, context clues, prefixes, suffixes and root words; synonyms and antonyms
II. Comprehension --> Finding details, Inferences, Getting the Main Idea, Drawing Conclusions, Identifying Cause and Effect, Comparing and Contracting, Identifying fact and Opinion and Decoding Literary devices
III. Strategies--> Predictions, Using text support, Summarizing, scanning
IV. New York State Rubric, Grade levels, short response and essays
V. Writing--> Purpose, structure, lead sentence, text support, conclusion/ending sentence, format: Intro, body, conclusion
