As part of our Social Awareness Unit, I took my students to the Bronx Zoo, which they loved. Some of the exhibits we visited were The World of Birds and The World of Darkness (nocturnal animals in an almost completely dark building) On the way to the zoo my students kept asking if we were going to see any skunks (strange fascination, LOL). Well, we saw the skunks in the World of Darkness and everyone was happy!
Class 729 and I enjoyed the fact that new exhibits are built with the emphasis on "natural" surroundings.
Areas such as Wild Asia and Jungle World, mimick a rainforest. (a building that houses some monkeys, leopards, birds and reptiles in a cageless setting) That was a beautiful thing to see because my students had questions as to whether the animals were happy.
